TEN YEARS AT UNI: TEAM LEADER ÁKOS TÓTH IS A MASTER LECTURER

Ákos, the Team Leader, has been with the EDAG Group for more than 20 years and it is hard to imagine the company without him. Since 2013, he has been teaching industrial mathematics at the local university in Győr. It was the idea of Zoltán Horváth, the former Dean of the Faculty for Mathematics, to provide the students with particularly practice-oriented "industrial insights". To do this, he took Ákos and another EDAG colleague on board, and since then, they have been working to make their own knowledge more tangible for future engineers by outlining real, everyday problems and challenges in their classes.

"I never expected this kind of recognition, and certainly not the conferring of a title. For me, being honored in this way is great praise for my long-term cooperation with the students and the university. From the very beginning, it has always been a win-win situation: We provide the university with practical, up-to-date knowledge, and the students can get to know the EDAG Group as an employer," is how Ákos describes the successful partnership.

Especially at the beginning of his teaching career, however, preparing the diverse topics in a structured and presentable way was a real challenge. Nowadays, with ten years' experience behind him and a well-established teaching structure, this has become much easier. The good cooperation with his colleagues Kristóf Edelmayer and Krisztián Szabó has helped him in this respect. Together, they cover all the lessons within the various semesters - from classic teaching to offering advice on project tasks.

In the course of the last decade, Ákos Tóth has seen hundreds of young engineers through the start of their careers. What does that feel like? "I am happy if I can persuade somebody to work as an engineer in Hungary, especially, of course, if that somebody is a young and enthusiastic specialist for the EDAG Group. It fills me with pride if, having offered a graduate a full-time job, that person takes up our offer." What motivates him more than anything else is the contact with young people: "Passing on my knowledge in a student-friendly, interactive way is a matter very close to my heart."

Ákos' own career is an example of true team loyalty: Having started as an intern in 2004, he can today look back on almost 20 years in the company. After the said internship, which he did as part of a two-year higher vocational training course culminating in a qualification as a mechanical engineering assistant, he went on to university to complete his degree in mechanical engineering. Then in 2006 came the permanent position at EDAG. Ákos takes stock: "A great community has developed, with many committed and professional colleagues who devote their energies to the company and what we are doing here. From this "nest", colleagues such as Zsolt Fekete, Head of the CAE Department, or Managing Director László Várallyai and I all had the chance to develop into leaders. I work in an inspiring environment, as part of a wonderful team. I am very happy here, and try to pass this feeling on to everyone else - my students, apprentices, colleagues and anyone who wants to become one."

Congratulations, Ákos, and here's to many more years!
